Hi, I'm Alec Zieff ("zef"). I'm a saxophonist based in North Texas. I have performed with the All-National Honor Jazz Ensemble (selected as 1 of 2 tenor saxophonists nationwide), the Vermont All-State Jazz Ensemble, and with some great bands. I play in all genres, from jazz to blues, funk to rock and classical.

Grundlefunk: Original songs painted with funk and jazz hues, best described as a cross between Herbie Hancock and Tower of Power. My gigs with this special group include playing tenor sax at the 2017 Vermont Brewers Festival and other events.

Gnomedad: A cutting-edge ensemble from Burlington, VT, which defies category. Gnomedad plays original compositions, combining superior musicianship with technology.

The Real Deal: This extraordinary  group debuted at Burlington  Vermont's Discover Jazz Festival in 2007. Since then, they have become a leading Soul and Funk band in Vermont.

Essex High School Jazz Band, Vermont: 1st Chair, tenor sax (2011-2015). Director Joshua Pauly. In 2014, we won the 16th Annual University of Massachusetts High School Jazz Festival. The guest judge was the extraordinary saxophonist, Kenny Garrett.

All-National Honor Jazz Ensemble, tenor saxophone (selected as 1 of 2 tenors nationwide); National Association for Music Education, performing at the Grand Ole Opry House, Nashville, TN (October 2014). Conducted by Robert J. Baca, Professor of Trumpet and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

All-State Jazz Ensemble, tenor saxophone; Vermont Music Educator’s Assn. (2014 & 2015). Opened for The Wayne Shorter Quartet at Burlington Discover Jazz Festival.

16th Annual University of Massachusetts High School Jazz Festival. Winning ensemble (Essex H.S., VT). 1st tenor and leader of woodwind section. Guest judge was Kenny Garrett (2014).

Burlington Discover Jazz Festival, Ed Bemis Scholarship, awarded to the outstanding high school jazz musician in Vermont (2015).
